This partly autobiographical memoir by James Joyce sees the protagonist struggle through a childhood fraught with poverty and social awkwardness. I read the book for school a long time ago and chose to include it here much more for the title and an excellent excuse to make a portrait-cover. The writing style is sometimes completely derranged - in a good way - so I tried to make a portrait that was shot through with text and layers.
Mixed media including chalk marker and oil pastel.
"His sins trickled from his lips, one by one, trickled in shameful drops from his soul festering and oozing like a sore, a squalid stream of vice. The last sins oozed forth, sluggish, filthy." James Joyce
